Be STRONG in the Lord and the power of His might.
Our family desire is to be like a lamp on a lampstand shining forth for Christ. We pray that we can be a witness to those who don't know the Lord and an encouragement and blessing to those who do. Thank you for visiting the Strong family blog.

Grandparent's Day
Maddeck made this card to mail out last week. I didn't know which set of grandparents to mail it to so I scanned it for all to see. Grandparents Day is this Friday at The River Academy. Grandparents are welcome in the classroom between 8:00-10:45 AM. There is an assembly for the whole school and all the grandparents at 11:00 AM. Per Maddeck's request we will be going to Red Robin for lunch after school like we did last Grandparents Day.

Sketch Book
Maddeck got a spiral sketch book for his birthday from his Papa and Mimi. I thumbed through it today and took some pictures of his work. Maddeck continues to love drawing and coloring. I was surprised by some of the things he came up with, as he doesn't show me all of his work anymore. There were a few pages where he had drawn something and then scribbled over it because he didn't like it. This must come with age, because he didn't do it when he was little and I have yet to see Evan or Miles dislike anything they are working on.

This is cool ...
Maddeck cut this picture out of a college course catalog we got in the mail. I love what his little creative mind comes up with.

Abstract Art
I cut out a bunch of shapes with construction paper for the boys to make abstract art. I told them they could glue them to a piece of paper however they wanted. Turns out Maddeck's mind doesn't think abstractly at this point and Evan's does. Here is what they came up with ...

Concussion
Maddeck has a concussion. He was running through the kitchen with his new SmartWool socks and slipped backwards and hit his head. Kyle saw him fall but didn't think it looked too bad. A couple minutes later Maddeck started crying because he felt dizzy and couldn't see correctly. I told him to go lay down in his room and he fell down on his way to his room. He started talking funny and wasn't able to answer any of our questions. He just would say "I don't know" to just about everything and then start crying. He couldn't do addition or tell us his favorite color. He couldn't focus his eyes on how many fingers we were holding up and didn't know where his room was, etc. Kyle called the doctor and recommended that we take him to the ER if his symptoms worsened. After going back and forth we decided to stay home. He woke up a couple times in the night crying and complaining of a headache. We knew he was thinking more clearly when we asked him who his best buddy is and he said "Caed". He woke up this morning feeling much better. He can go back to school tomorrow but he can't play at recess until next week. The real danger is re-injuring his head while he is healing from his concussion. We are so thankful it was not more serious and that he is getting back to normal. It was scary to see him so out of sorts and clearly not able to think normally. He is BORED out of his mind today. No TV, no reading, no horseplay with his brothers, and lots of rest is what he needs. He has been coloring, cutting, gluing, and playing Legos today, but it is hard to keep him from running all over the house. His response to the rules for today "Oh no! No running or jumping ... can I skip? Will you call the doctor and see if it is okay if I watch Spiderman?
This afternoon Caed and Courtney stopped by with a Get Well Soon balloon for Maddeck and some stickers. Maddeck gave Caed a big hug and said thank you. It looked like he was about to cry he was so happy to see his friend. It was so sweet.
I knew he was on the mend when he drew a picture with excellent motor skills this morning ...

Turkey
Maddeck learned how to draw a turkey at school. He drew one for our family after school today. Isn't it adorable? I love being a Mom, especially a stay-at-home one!

Pilgrims and Indians
The boys and I have been reading the book Squanto at home. Squanto was a young Indian from Massachusetts that was a friend of the Pilgrims. Maddeck has been learning about Pilgrims and Indians, including Squanto, at school over the past week. Today he came home with a cute little canoe the class had made out of construction paper. We decided to make our own little Indian village scene at home during Miles' nap. They worked so hard for most of the afternoon on their projects. We read a few more chapters of Squanto and both boys are really enjoying the book.
Look at Maddeck's deer! He told me Mrs. Patterson taught him how to draw them.
